A suitcase, which had been thought to be suspicious, has been destroyed in a small controlled explosion in central Auckland.
The New Zealand Defence Force was called to inspect the item, which was found earlier this evening beside a rubbish bin on the corner of Quay Street and Gore Street.
Police cordoned off the area and closed parts of nearby roads as a precaution.
An investigation was still under way at the site, but cordons were being lifted.
The police said motorists in the area should expect to continue to experience some disruption.
