A Danish woman tramping in the Marlborough Sounds has been winched to safety by a rescue helicopter after a fall.
Police said the 26-year-old woman was part of an organised party from Anakiwa, who were descending from Onahau peak when the incident happened.
Despite deteriorating weather, the rescue helicopter crew located the party in steep terrain and winched an intensive care paramedic down to the injured woman.
She was stabilised before being winched on board and flown to Blenheim's Wairau Hospital.
