A chemical spill that led to an Auckland business being evacuated has been contained.

Emergency services cordoned off parts of Great South Road in the suburb of Penrose earlier this evening, after a chemical spill.

The Fire Service said the chemical carbide had spilt at BOC and 30 firefighters worked to clear the scene.

A spokesperson said the spill had been contained and all units had left the business.
