Clowns 'holding weapons' arrested in Dunedin

Two people dressed as clowns have been arrested in Dunedin following reports they were threatening people with weapons.

Police were called to the area of Duke and Dundas Streets about 10.30pm.

Officers said they were told the pair had been holding weapons, but it has yet to be confirmed.

It's unclear whether charges have been laid over the incident.

Police are also investigating two men dressed as clowns who attacked a young woman in Hamilton just over a week ago.

Several incidents of people dressed as clowns frightening members of the public have recently been reported in the US, the UK and Australia.
