A post mortem is to be held on the body of an elderly man found in his home in Opotiki.
Police found the man, 78, when they were called to his Windsor Street home by a neighbour on Tuesday morning.
They say the death is suspicious and a scene examination of the house is being held.
Detective Inspector Rob Jones says a team is also making door to door inquiries as they try to piece together the circumstances.
The man's name is being with-held while next of kin are informed.
