9:35 pm on 19 October 2016

Two men are in custody after an Armed Offenders Squad callout near the Taupō suburb of Acacia Bay.

Police said they were preparing for a routine arrest at a rural property this afternoon when a man outside the house was seen pointing what appeared to be a firearm at the Eagle helicopter.

The Armed Offenders Squad was called and two men from the property were taken into custody shortly after 5pm.

Police said at the time they believed another person was in the house.

However they have since confirmed the two men arrested were the only ones present.

A spokesperson said earlier that they didn't believe any shots had been fired.

Cordons that had been in place around the property have been removed.

At the time Reeves Road resident Ian Cromack said there were numerous police cars at the bottom of his road, which had been blocked off.

Locals said they saw a helicopter flying over the area since 2pm.
