Mortgagee sales in February were on par with levels shown during the grips of the recession a year ago.

Terralink International says the figures indicate that the recession is still not over in the housing market.

The agency says there were 121 mortgagee sales in February, compared with 124 in the same month last year.

However, the number represents a drop of 38% from January this year when there were 196 forced sales.

Terralink says a dip is usually recorded in February, followed by a rise in March. Preliminary figures indicate that the numbers are rising.
