Two motorcyclists have collided during an organised race in Greymouth, with one rider killed and the other injured.
The crash happened on Herbert Street shortly before 11am.
Police said one motorcyclist died on the way to hospital.
A hospital spokesperson said the other rider was treated and discharged.
The Greymouth Motorcycle Street Race has been held every Labour weekend for 27 years.
Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the crash, or anyone to has photos or video of it.
