A Wanaka man has died after a climbing accident on Mount Aspiring in the Southern Alps.
Police say he was climbing the South West Ridge with another man, when he fell about 800 metres just before midday on Thursday.
They say his partner contacted the alpine rescue team, but the man, 48, was found dead on the team's arrival.
The matter will be investigated.
