Four police officers will go on trial charged with assault with a weapon after two of them are alleged to have used tasers as they arrested a man who later died.
They have denied the charges, and their trial is due to begin tomorrow.
The accused have name suppression and, until now, their occupations were also suppressed. That was lifted today by Judge Phillip Cooper, who said to do otherwise would result in a secret trial.
The trial, before Judge Cooper and a jury in the Napier District Court, is due to hear from 28 Crown witnesses and is expected to last two weeks.
The police have previously said the man was arrested after reports of a serious assault on his parents in Hastings in March last year.
They said he died at the scene despite efforts to resuscitate him.
