A escaped prisoner described as dangerous is still at large in Auckland.
Tuainekore Charlie Rangi, 30, walked out of an unlocked room at the Glen Innes police station on Thursday morning while waiting to appear in court.
Police say he has a history of violent offending.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mark McHattie says officers visited associates of the man overnight.
Mr McHattie says a momentary lack of supervision by a police officer unfamiliar with the station led to the escape, and a separate investigation is under way.
