Police investigating the disappearance of Christchurch woman Emma Campbell want to speak to a man parked at a lookout on the Port Hills early last Saturday morning.

Ms Campbell, 29, was last seen buying petrol from a Shell service station on Riccarton Road at 5.30am on Saturday.

Her car was found crashed off the side of the road leading to the top of the Port Hills.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Rae says police now know Ms Campbell's car went off the side of the road between 5.30am and 7.15am due to information from an ambulance officer who drove past at 7.15am.

Police also want to speak to a man who was standing beside a white car - either a Nissan Bluebird or a Toyota Corona - parked at the Sign of the Kiwi, about 5.30am. The well-dressed man was talking on a cellphone.

Detective Senior Sergeant Rae says police would like to speak to the man, even though he may not think he has anything of significance to tell them.
