Police briefly evacuated about 50 homes in a Wellington suburb after a gas explosion this afternoon.
The evacuations on Westchester Drive, in Churton Park, were a precaution after the explosion, they said.
The gas mains might have been hit while workers were digging in the area.
Officers said no one was hurt, and the cordons had been lifted.
Meanwhile, separately, fire crews have contained a large scrub fire in the hills above Grenada North. The Fire Service said two crews were called to the fire shortly before 2pm.
