Police concerns that they had found a body at the scene of a Taranaki house fire have proved unfounded.
Yesterday police reported that human remains had been found at the Okahutiria Rd property in Waverley, which burnt down on Monday.
The bones officers uncovered have been confirmed as belonging to an animal.
Efforts to locate the owner of the property will continue today and a forensic search will be undertaken at the home.
Police will also complete a search of a bush area surrounding the property.
