National standards line-up continues

12:14 pm on 10 May 2010

The Government is aligning the School Journal and other primary school resources with its new national standards in reading, writing and maths.

But the process will not be complete until next year and the primary teachers union says it is more evidence the standards have been rushed.

The work includes telling teachers how assessment tools, such as the Progressive Achievement Tests, relate to the new standards.

It will also see resources, such as the School Journal, aligned to the standards.

The Educational Institute says teachers do not want to use a process of trial and error to introduce the standards.

The Ministry of Education says the resources teachers need right now are in place already.

It says the work will ensure teachers have better information about the best uses of texts in the classroom.
