Triple Olympic medalist Barbara Kendall has announced her retirement from boardsailing.

Kendall, 42, won gold at Barcelona in 1992, silver in Atlanta in 1996 and bronze in Sydney in 2000.

She finished fifth in Athens in 2004 and sixth in Beijing in 2008. She also won the world title three times. She has not competed since Beijing.

While physically she is still strong, Kendall says the fire is not there anymore.

Kendall sits on the IOC Athletes Commission and holds positions with the Oceania Olympic Committee as an executive board member and president of its Athletes Commission.
