About 2000 people saw a colossal squid exhibition on its opening day at Te Papa in Wellington on Saturday.
The 4.2 metre creature was last year caught by a New Zealand fishing crew in the Ross Sea in the Antarctic.
Te Papa project manager, Chris Paulin, says the exhibition features parts of the squid in a custom built tank, a documentary and animations.
The creature will be on display for three years.
