Science sector set to benefit in Budget

4:02 pm on 10 May 2010

The Prime Minister has again signalled that the science sector stands to benefit from increased spending in the Budget.

John Key told a National Party conference in Masterton that science is one of several areas the Government will target as it seeks faster economic growth.

Mr Key says the science sector is a priority for new spending.

"You can expect to see science at the heart of what we do in the Budget a few days from now. We have made this area a top priority for new spending."

Mr Key says the Government wants more companies to invest in science and technology, because that would lead to more valuable products and better-paid jobs.

Finance Minister Bill English will deliver the Budget on 20 May.
