The fire ripped through scrub and trees behind Logan Park High School on 27 December and threatened houses in the suburb of Ravensbourne.

It took six helicopters, 45 firefighters and eight fire engines to bring the blaze under control.

Otago Rural Fire Authority spokesperson Graeme Still estimated the damage to trees and mountain bike tracks would cost a six-figure sum to repair.

Police said their inquiries into the cause of the fire were continuing.
