Police investigating the killing of an Opotiki pensioner are preparing for what they say could be a lengthy investigation.
The body of John Alan Rowe, 78, was discovered at his Windsor Street home on 24 November.
A post mortem found Mr Rowe died as a result of head injuries.
Detective Inspector Rob Jones said police are still waiting for someone to come forward. He said they have a few people in mind and will be speaking to them.
Mr Jones said someone in the community is holding vital information.
