Burning bus blocks Auckland motorway

6:40 pm on 7 January 2017

A burning bus blocked the southbound lanes of Auckland's Southern motorway today.

The fire service received multiple reports of the bus on fire under the Greenlane Interchange shortly after 10am this morning.

Fire Service spokesperson Jaron Phillips said two crews battled the blaze, with the bus fully involved in flame.

He said all passengers were off the bus and he was unaware of any injuries.

All of the southbound lanes of the southern motorway are now open again.

The bus was removed early this afternoon.

Traffic is now flowing freely through the area, but police said motorists should still take care.

The burning bus has caused traffic heading south to back up for several kilometres.
