Tourists rescued after night in the bush

Three women have been rescued from Fiordland National Park, after weather deteriorated yesterday forcing them to spend the night there.

The women, overseas visitors aged in their late 20s, alerted authorities from the Ailsa Mountain Range about 10pm yesterday.

A helicopter was sent, but could not reach them because of low cloud and strong winds.

A LandSAR team were dropped off in the area by helicopter and stayed with them overnight.

The weather has since improved and a helicopter brought out the trio and the rescue team this morning.
