Two teenage girls have been charged with the murder of an elderly Bay of Plenty man last month.

Police say the pair, aged 15 and 17, killed John Rowe, 78, in his Opotiki home in Windsor Street.

A man, 21, has also been arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact and attempting to defeat the course of justice.

All three will appear in court on Saturday.

Detective Inspector Rob Jones says investigation has been difficult at times.
