State Highway 2 between Norsewood and Waipukurau is still closed after a fatal truck crash overnight, with traffic building up on the sides of the road.
The crash happened at about 12.30am and police said there were diversions in place while the highway was cleaned up.
Drivers have been asked to delay their journeys if possible to avoid further build up of traffic in the area with the road not expected to be opened until later this afternoon.
The driver and the passenger of the truck both died in the crash.
A crane is being brought in to clear the truck, which was now upside down to the side of the road, about 5 kilometres north of Norsewood.
Emergency services were also attending another crash this morning, after a driver hit a power pole on France Road in Napier.
