A short and sharp earthquake has jolted Christchurch.
Geonet said the magnitude 3.1 shake, at 3.25pm, struck 10 kilometres deep, in the Port Hills above Cashmere.
More than 700 people reported to Geonet they felt it.
Geonet described the intensity as "light". People said on Twitter it was "sharp" and "a real rattler".
