Hunter shot: police considering charges

7:19 pm on 22 December 2008

It may be sometime before the man responsible for shooting a hunter in the Pureroa Forest, near Mangakino on Saturday, will know if police will lay charges against him.

The hunter is in a stable condition and recovering in Waikato Hospital after he was shot with a .308 rifle through his right shoulder.

Tokoroa CIB Detective Rick Rudolph says police on Sunday spoke to the person responsible for the shooting and he is assisting them with their inquiries.

Mr Rudolph says it appears the shooting was unintentional, but police are not ruling out laying charges. However, it may take some weeks to resolve, pending a legal opinion.
