Holiday weekend snarl-ups are causing delays on highways out of Wellington and Auckland.

In Wellington, drivers have taken up to two hours and 20 minutes to get from Pukerua Bay to Waikanae on State Highway One.
There is heavy highway traffic up through Ngauranga Gorge and on SH2 to Petone, although elsewhere it was flowing, the Transport Agency said.
In Auckland, traffic is building north and south out of the city ahead of the long weekend.
Heading north on State Highway 1, traffic was heavy from Albany to Silverdale and there were queues just before the Johnstone Hill tunnels.
On the southern motorway, traffic was heavy from Mount Wellington to Takanini.
Westbound it was slow from the port to the Northern and North Western Link, then heavy from Rosebank to Te Atatu.
