A part-time soldier who admitted giving a shotgun to Napier gunman Jan Molenaar has been fined.
Molenaar, 51, killed a police officer and seriously wounded two officers and a civilian on 7 May last year, moments after police began a drug search of his Napier home.
The following day, Molenaar shot himself following a 50-hour siege. A search of his home revealed an arsenal of 17 firearms, a rocket launcher and a large amount of ammunition.
In April, Kevin Rollinson, 50, pleaded guilty to supplying a firearm to Molenaar sometime after 2003 without checking he had a gun licence.
His lawyer, Philip Jensen, told the Napier District Court on Friday his client didn't excuse what he had done and accepted that he made a poor and dangerously careless decision.
But Mr Jensen argued that a conviction would be out of proportion to the gravity of the offence and could jeopardise Rollinson's 23-year army career.
The judge disagreed and fined Rollinson $250, plus court costs.
