Police say a house fire in Waitara early on Sunday was arson and they are focusing their investigation on a vehicle parked outside the house during the blaze.
New Plymouth police say witnesses saw the vehicle, which had an Uru Tahu gang sticker on its back window, being attacked between 10 and 10.30pm on Saturday.
The Fire Service was called to the house, at the intersection of High and Harris Streets, at 2.30am on Sunday.
Detective Sergeant Greg Gray says police are now trying to determine whether there is a link between the attack on the vehicle and the later arson of the property.
