Elderly passengers in minibus crash

9:42 pm on 30 December 2008

Twelve people who were trapped in a mini-bus that crashed in the Catlins in South Otago on Tuesday were all residents of a rest home.

The police say the bus was travelling in a convoy with another bus from the rest home when the driver appeared to lose control on a gravel road. The bus tipped on its side and slid down a 2m bank.

Police, fire and ambulance services attended the vehicle at Cannibal Bay Road.

The police say all the passengers were wearing seatbelts and none suffered serious injury.

Inquiries are continuing into the cause of the crash.
