Body recovered from river in London

A body has been recovered from the River Thames in London but the Metropolitan Police are refusing to say if it is that of the missing New Zealand man Johnny Sleigh.

It is almost a fortnight since the 36-year-old was last seen leaving a bar in Holborn in the West End.

His older brother David Sleigh and younger sister Catherine Booth have travelled to London to join the search.

London's Metropolitan Police say the Coastguard recovered a body at Blackfriars Bridge on Tuesday morning.

Police say officers believe they know the identity of the body but are awaiting formal identification.

The Met says it understands Johnny Sleigh's family is now being assisted by a family liaison officer.
