Nearly 3000 Canterbury houses that had power cut off on Saturday have been reconnected.
A severe electrical storm ripped through Canterbury about 4pm, shutting down the power to 2000 houses in Ashburton and 600 in Dunsandel and Lincoln.
The outage came just as contractors were finishing reconnecting houses in Ashburton that had been shut off because of a wind storm on Friday.
Most of the houses cut off on Saturday had the power restored within four hours.
On Friday, an estimated 10,000 houses in south Canterbury lost power for several hours because of high winds.
The winds of more than 110kmh knocked out the power to customers and damaged trees and roofs, mostly south of Ashburton.
