Police said a man entered the Brickworks Bar and Restaurant in Cashmere about 9.45pm last night, holding a firearm.

The man threatened staff members, before fleeing on foot with cash.

Police were still searching for the man.

The bar was also robbed earlier this month, but police did not know if the two robberies were connected.

Meanwhile, Christchurch police have formed a dedicated team to respond to a spate of aggravated robberies that have targeted bars and hotels across the city.

They said officers were very concerned about the robberies over the past two months, and they were a priority for staff.

A dedicated team of 20 investigators has been formed, including detectives.
