Flights to Invercargill, Dunedin, Wellington, Napier, New Plymouth, Auckland and Brisbane were delayed, according to Christchurch Airport's website.

The agency Transport for Christchurch warned motorists to turn on headlights, drive at appropriate speeds and keep a good following distance.

MetService said the weather will be fine and sunny this afternoon, but strong easterlies will bring back low cloud this evening, and heavy fog is expected again in the morning. Forecasters expect the fog to be gone by Wednesday.
