A court has sent a Hong Kong man to jail for more than 15 years for bringing tens of millions of dollars worth of methamphetamine into the country in shipping containers.
Kai Yip Cheung, 20, was arrested last October following a Customs investigation into a company believed to have been set up to smuggle the illegal drug.
Customs intercepted 10 shipping containers sent from China, and detailed examination found packages containing meth hidden in the containers' doors.
The Auckland District Court has sentenced Kai Yip Cheung to 15 years and five months in prison for importing 176kg of methamphetamine, with a street value of about $176 million.
