Mr Dennis appeared briefly with his co-accused, Vaughan Perry, at court this morning, where Justice Moore set a date for the trial in November.

Mr Dennis, who is also chairman of Auckland's Te Puea Marae, has been stood down from his role with police since September 2015, pending the police investigation.

A 17-year-old laid a complaint with police accusing Mr Dennis and Mr Perry of carrying out a "mock arrest" by putting him in a cell at the Auckland Central Police Station.

Today, Crown prosecutor David Johnstone said he would be applying for court leave to take the jury to the police station.
