A man has been charged with setting his dog on a Greymouth bar manager after he asked the man to take the animal outside, police say
They said the 25-year-old man was drinking with his dog at the city's Railway Hotel on Friday night when the attack occurred.
They said the dog was also set on patrons who tried to intervene.
Police said the bar manager suffered serious bite wounds to his head, face and arms and was taken to Grey Base Hospital for treatment.
The man was taken into custody and faces several assault charges
