Warbird crashes; pilot unharmed

A Spitfire war-plane due to take part in the Wings Over Wairarapa air show this weekend has crashed.

The plane had a wheels-up landing at Hood Aerodrome in Masterton Thursday afternoon.

Murray Dunbar from the Wellington Fire Communications Centre says the pilot wasn't injured and was able to get out of the plane and walk away.

The Spitfire MkIX and a P51 Mustang were to make a historic flypast over Wellington on Friday. Organisers say the flypast will still take place, but not with the original planes.
