Air display to go ahead

7:33 am on 16 January 2009

An air display will still go ahead over Wellington on Friday despite one of the main attractions - a Mark Nine Spitfire - crashing.

The pilot was uninjured in the crash at the Hood Aerodrome in Masterton on Thursday.

It was due to fly in an aerial pageant in the Wairarapa at the weekend.

Wings over Wairarapa organiser, Tom Williams says the aircraft was not badly damaged in the crash, which occured as the pilot was landing the Spitfire.

However, he says the crash has derailed plans for Battle of Britain pilot, John Pattison, 91 to fly the Spitfire over Wellington.

Mr Pattison will fly in another plane from the classic fleet.
