West Aucklanders suffer night without power

Hundreds of homes were without electricity overnight in west Auckland after a car hit a pole, cutting power to 17,000 homes.

Most of the affected houses had their supply restored last night, but more than 300 in New Lynn and Glen Eden did not get theirs back until about 6.30am.

Police said a loud bang was reported before the power went out.

Lines company Vector said a car hit a power pole in Great North Road about 10.30pm yesterday.
