Police in Southland have found a filleting knife near where two Dutch tourists were robbed and one of them sexually assaulted on Thursday morning.
A man, 25 and a woman, 22, were asleep at the Tuatapere camp ground when a man broke into their vehicle and threatened them with a knife.
Detective Dave Nelson says the woman was raped by the offender who demanded money before leaving.
He says the knife may be linked to the assault and they are appealing to the public to help identify it.
