Convicted rapist accused of breach of parole

12:50 pm on 16 January 2009

The Department of Corrections has applied to the Parole Board to have convicted rapist Brad Shipton recalled to prison.

The former police officer and Tauranga city councillor was released on parole in November, after serving three years for his part in a rape of a woman in Mount Maunganui 1989.

The department says he breached a parole requirement not to associate with co-offenders.

Lawyer Bill Nabney says his client is accused of having coffee with co-offender, Peter McNamara, in Mt Maunganui.

Mr Nabney says the accusation is completely untrue and says there is CCTV footage showing him in Auckland at the time.

The Parole Board says a hearing will take place next month.
