Crew escape grounded fishing boat

Three people escaped unharmed when their fishing boat ran aground near Greymouth this morning.

The crew of the Kutere sent out a mayday call shortly after 1.40am while the fishing boat was coming across the Greymouth Channel and said it was heading towards the beach.

The fishing boat ran aground at Cobden Beach.

Those onboard were safe but cold and shaken, and were treated at the scene briefly by paramedics.

Maritime New Zealand was notified.
