One in hospital after Christchurch motel fire

One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, after a fire broke out at a motel on Barbadoes Street in Christchurch this morning, the Fire Service says.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at the Central City Motel Apartments just before 7am.

Fire Service spokesperson Laura Prior said the blaze had been extinguished and a fire investigator was at the scene.

Ms Prior said it was not yet clear what caused the fire.
