Akl fog lifts but flight disruption continues

4:00 pm on 17 June 2017

Fog that has persisted since early this morning and has disrupted flight schedules at Auckland airport has finally lifted.

The airport said about 50 domestic flights were delayed, 64 were cancelled and one was diverted to Wellington.

International flights to Fiji and Gold Coast have been delayed and inbound flights from Nadi Brisbane and Melbourne have been diverted to Wellington.

Fog in Auckland has disrupted flights more than usual this year and and MetService has said that was likely to continue through winter.

The last major disruption, two weeks ago, was the third time fog had hit the airport in three weeks.

Auckland Airport said passengers should check its website or app for the latest flight arrival and departure information.

Metservice said it expected the fog to return tonight.
