Police are treating a man's death in his Auckland home this morning as unexplained.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard said a friend who was visiting the man at his Freemans Bay home phoned an ambulance for him but by the time it arrived, the man had died.
He said St John Ambulance then phoned the police who arrived at the Beresford Street Central address at about 11am.
Mr Beard says police are talking to a flatmate and the person who called the ambulance.
A scene examination is under way and there will be a post mortem.
