Proper car restraints saved six lives - St John

Six people, including four children, injured in a head-on smash near Gisborne this morning are alive because they were properly restrained in their vehicles.

That's the conclusion of St John Ambulance staff at the scene.

All the injured are in Gisborne Hospital with multiple serious injuries.

The children are all aged under 12.

The crash temporarily closed State Highway 35 north of Gisborne.
