Fans have applied for more than 600,000 seats in venue and team pool packs, in the first phase of ticket sales for next year's Rugby World Cup.

Rugby New Zealand 2011 says some people will miss out because too many applied for the Eden Park venue pack and the New Zealand team pack.

Chief executive Martin Snedden says applicants will be notified by early next month whether they have been successful.

Mr Snedden says overseas demand has been strong, particularly for the England, Ireland, France, South Africa and Australia team pool packs.

A second phase of ticketing, which will involve individual ticket sales, is expected to begin in September.
