Schoolgirl rugby teams suspended after match brawl

Two schoolgirl rugby teams have been suspended from playing after a fight at an secondary school game in Auckland where spectators became involved.

Auckland Rugby Union says the game, between Glendowie College and Mount Roskill, was called off by the referee.

Both teams now have a two-game suspension and Mount Roskill has since opted to pull out of the competition for the rest of the year.

The rugby union says referees are obliged to call off a game once people from the sideline become involved.

Last season, several boys from Kelston Boys High School received suspensions after a fight during a game with Auckland Grammar turned into a sideline brawl.
