Police are treating the death of a man in rural Taupō as a homicide.
A family member found the man, who was 48 years old, shot at his property in Whangamata Road in Kinloch yesterday evening.
Officers are examining the address today.
They will also begin searching the extensive rural property, which includes several hectares of bush.
Earlier, police said they were concerned about his 38-year-old partner who may have been present during the shooting, and could not be found, but she was located, safe and well, as a nearby property this afternoon.
